Great article and I had no idea about the variations of King cake. Dreikönigskuchen Sounds intriguing. Less sugar perhaps and more fruity than the new orleans version. Either way delicious and a welcome distraction from what January 6th now means in America.

Shawn! Thanks for reading! Now I’m googling “king cake” + different countries. I think next I have to try a Spanish rosca de reyes.

I’m learning a lot about cakes and breads. My cousin sent me Julakaka, a Norwegian Xmas bread.

I’m extremely familiar with New Orleans king cake, and I bought a dreikoenings cake because my wife has an epiphany birthday. I had no idea that the baby in the cake (or king) was not just a New Orleans thing, but thankfully I got it, not my two year old.

I hope that wasn't the only cake your wife got... because not a cake? I was curious what was popping up in Geneva and if it would be more galette des rois. I did see one in a bakery today, but we're also right on the French border. Wasn't sure if French-speaking Swiss meant French king cakes.

I saw it maybe a week before and got it then. We had a pretty decadent meal on her bday
