Googled Poe's Bells; interesting poem. Was also led to a photo gallery of Mr. Poe. Either there are only two, maybe three, original photos of him - all dour - or he never met a frown he didn't like.
I've always liked cowbells whether rung by cows or others.
so many funny lines. I love love love church and distant cowbell sounds .. and I noticed when back in DC at G'town how - lame - the college bell seemed vs. Cambridge - which I seem to recall had a few daily bells? Or at least I heard them. Anyway - the cowbell-in-the-pasture-on-the-mountain is somehow a calming sound to me... but sleeping thru a million calls to prayer, Catholic-style, would drive me nuts. Good luck!
I came here to say the same thing. I don't know when I'd do laundry if it wasn't in a hurried rush on Sunday nights after I realized I had no clean underwear for Monday.
Quiet hours start at 7 or 8pm for you!? In Berlin (pretty sure all of Germany) it's 10pm. There's supposedly also a Ruhepause from 1-3pm but I don't think anyone observes it. And I do laundry and vacuum on Sundays. I do not care. No one has ever complained. It's never been a discussion topic. Whenever I move somewhere new, I do try to make a point of asking about how to be respectful about playing music (as in, playing guitar/bass and singing) but generally my neighbors have always said they don't hear it or they don't mind it. I think I am lucky in these regards, or maybe it's just Berlin.
Actually, I did have a roommate in Frankfurt once who asked me to stop playing guitar at night. It might've even been after 10pm, before I knew about that rule. Obviously I stopped.
I was exaggerating here… if I’m not vacuuming then, it’s because I’m tired. Quiet hours are 10-7 am.
I vacuum on Sundays too… the times I’ve thought I’ve been loud & apologized to the 80 yo woman who lives below us (not my mom), she said she didn’t hear anything.
Ms. Golden -

Thank you for another slice of Swiss.

Bring your earplugs, Kitty!
Somehow the only bells I remember in Cambridge are the Lowell House bells, because we got to ring them!

You cant do laundry on Sundays?!
This might just be a house rule but I think generally in a shared building (with shared laundry facilities) it’s frowned upon.
